Kickstarter Campaign of the Week: Visionnaire

We’re back with Kickstarter Campaign of the Week. Today, we’re featuring Visionnaire. Let me tell you, I am impressed. As of today, Visionnaire has raised over $220,000, tallied 4158 backers and still has 38 days to go! The initial goal that was set was only $15,000. They sure validated their concept and found customer demand with this campaign. Lets see how they did it.

Pricing

Their pricing model states it for an early bird price of $37. It is compared to a MontBlanc fountain pen with a retail price of $575. Whew! That is a significant price difference. Since they work directly with the manufacturer, they are able to keep prices down for the customer. This model reminds me a lot of Warby Parker and their tactic of eliminating the middleman for glasses. According to Warby’s website, “The industry is controlled by a few large companies that have kept prices artificially high, reaping huge profits from consumers like you who have had few other options. By refusing to deal with these companies and selling our glasses to you directly through our website, we cut out the middlemen who egregiously mark up prescription eyeglass prices. This makes it possible for us to offer you great-looking prescription glasses at a great price”. Perhaps Visionnaire has a similar approach and will be able to build a bigger venture from this funding.

 

Page Successes

They sure did a great job explaining the product from all different angles. The story is wonderful. He states “Not only does a pen have to have functionality, it needs to have soul”. This makes you really feel like you’re buying something more than a just a pen. This part is the clincher for me, “Perhaps my son would have it in his hands when it comes time signing his son’s birth certificate”. Perhaps the only thing missing is a reference to signing their ‘John Hancock’ as a product guarantee.

 

Conclusion

The team behind Visionnaire did an excellent job putting together their Kickstarter page. From the high quality images and great explainer video to the detailed prototype descriptions. Visionnaire now has an opportunity to impress their 4,000+ backers by sticking to their word and producing these pens within a fair time frame. What do you think of the Visionnaire?
