“According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
Are you afraid to pitch to an investor? What’s the worst that could happen? We’ve had many people reach out to us asking us how to take the pressure off a big Demo Day pitch so we tell them this, “Think of it like having a conversation with a friend, explain it like you would to your mother and with the excitement when you had your AHA moment”.
Don’t put pressure on yourself over an aspect that you can’t control, their opinion about you. You’re selling the audience on your ability to execute, not polished presentation skills. A savvy investor won’t want to hear your rehearsed version anyway.
Angel investors want to see the real side of you, if they sense anything coming off as fake or putting on an act, then it will look like a character flaw and shed a negative light on you and your deal.
Just be yourself.
